ART Institute Success Rates in SART
During 2006-2008 more than 40% of our patients younger than 35 years had a live birth following IVF or ICSI using fresh embryos for transfer. This rate gradually decreased with age, reaching 15% for patients 41 or 42 years old. We are proud to note that our results for fresh and frozen-thawed embryo transfers have placed within the top 30% of clinics over the past three (2006-2008) publication years. And there is even better news! Preliminary data for the year 2009 show a considerable increase in pregnancy and delivery rates, thanks to a complete overhaul of our system of embryo culture. Our data will be validated by SART early next year (2011). The data (once validated) will be reported as greater than 44% of our patients younger than 35 years had a live birth following IVF or ICSI using fresh embryos for transfer in 2009. As in years before, the rate gradually decreases with age to reach 29% for patients 41 or 42 years old. Many factors such as attempt number and ovarian ageing affect treatment outcomes and such factors are not considered by organizations such as SART and CDC who provide annual breakdowns of IVF clinic data. We prefer to analyze results fairly using implantation rate (the chance of one embryo attaching to the uterus and growing into a fetus) and the average number of embryos transferred. The latter obviously impacts the incidence of multiple pregnancy. Since multiple pregnancies represent an added risk to IVF, one may say that the lower their frequency and the lower the average number of embryos transferred, the higher the success of the program. Although not always achievable in all age groups, the ART Institute aims to achieve the highest possible implantation rates in combination with the lowest numbers of embryos transferred.
